Sometimes I forget who God is.
I momentarily lose sight of who God is because I’m so fearfully fixated by some problem I’m facing in life. And to my shame, I wonder: Does God really care about me?
That problem—whatever it may be—seems mountainous. It looms impossibly large, occupying my thoughts, my time, and my attention, until it’s all I can think about. It seems impassable, unscalable.
No matter how hard I try, I can’t figure out how to overcome such an enormous, exhausting problem on my own. It’s out of my control, out of my hands, and I don’t know what to do. I don’t know where to turn. But if I just sit back and let it be, the agonizing weight of that problem will slowly crush me.
And even if, by some chance, I’m able to get out of such an impossible problem all on my own, I know another trouble in life is just waiting on the horizon.
Health challenges for me or my loved ones. Financial troubles. Uncertainty about the future. Doubts about what is going on right now. Fears about what might happen.
Trouble never goes away. It’s always lurking about in some form or other in our lives.
But you know what? So is our God. And he’s a lot bigger and stronger than the seemingly mountainous problems we face. He made the actual mountains. Through him, all things were made, and he holds all things, including you and me, in his hands.
Our help comes from God. Our help comes from the one who cared for us and loved us so much that he sent his Son Jesus to live a perfect life in our place, die the death we deserve for our sins, and rise triumphant from the grave so that God can say of us, “You are mine—bought with my Son’s precious blood.”
Dear Christian, no matter what troubles you or your loved ones are facing in life right now, you are not alone. Your God is right there with you. Supporting, protecting, and upholding you.
At night, you can rest in peace because the Lord watches over you with his full, undivided attention. How? He’s the almighty God! He doesn’t tire; he neither slumbers nor sleeps. He watches over you and keeps you in his loving hands.
What in this life can truly harm you? You are God’s dearly loved child. He will watch over you your whole life; he will watch over your coming and going, now and always.
Does that mean all our troubles and problems in life will vanish in the blink of an eye? No. We still have trouble in this life, and God doesn’t always say why he allows it to endure. But he does point us in his Word and sacraments to who he is and what he has done for us in Christ Jesus.
You and I can rest assured in the unbreakable promises of our almighty God. Focus on him, despite the troubles that seem mountainous. God is with us. No matter what, he is with us. He is for us. And he loves us with an everlasting love for Jesus’ sake.
Success, possessions, happiness, and self-satisfaction drive the world we live in today. But what if you don’t have those things? Throughout the pages of Scripture, God assures you that he cares for you too, supporting, providing, protecting, directing, and governing everything that happens. Take a closer look at those comforting truths in God’s Providence: He Cares for You.
