Our Relationship to WELS
Northwestern Publishing House (NPH) is the publishing arm of the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod (WELS). NPH serves the object and purpose of the synod by publishing and disseminating materials that maintain Lutheran doctrine and practice, and by providing materials for schools, Sunday schools, missions, and churches. NPH assists the WELS gospel ministry by publishing biblically sound materials that communicate, foster, and support the Christian faith and life.
The mission of Northwestern Publishing House “to deliver biblically sound, Christ-centered resources within the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod and beyond” captures the purpose and role it has played for over 130 years.
Northwestern Publishing House is a self-supporting ministry, defined as a 501(c)(3) non-profit institution under the IRS code. NPH receives no funds for ongoing operations from the synodical budget, relying primarily on the sales of its products for its continued operation. Revenues in excess of expenses go back into the development of new products and services for those NPH serves.
Because NPH receives no external funds for ongoing operations, the support of WELS congregations, schools, pastors, teachers, and laity through the purchase of NPH materials is vital to the long-term viability of NPH’s ministry.
