What Pastors Love About Quick to Listen

Understanding someone else’s perspective is key to connecting with them. These four pastors remind the reader what we need to do for others: listen to them! Doing so can better reflect Christ’s love for all. – Daniel Sprain (Shepherd of the Valley, West Fargo, ND)

I used the book Quick to Listen for our campus ministry at the University of Michigan. I gave the students copies of the book, and then we met for dinner at eateries around campus to discuss sections of the book over the year. It was the best campus ministry Bible study we’ve ever had. The students especially enjoyed it, and they even wanted to keep meeting after I had planned on ending our Bible study for the year. As a campus pastor, I especially appreciated the approach of letting critics and thoughtful skeptics speak in their own words and share their own stories. The four WELS authors showed humility and tact, which goes a long way in reaching university students in our day and age. NPH took a different approach in publishing a book that can be hard to read, but the hard read was well worth it. – Jacob Haag (Redeemer, Ann Arbor, MI)

We read this book as part of our church’s book club, and the conversation it started was wonderful. We have a good cross section of ages in that group, and they appreciated the chance to carefully think through our approach to people who have very different beliefs than we do. It was powerful to read the personal perspectives and hear from the people behind certain beliefs. We also enjoyed talking about our response to the quotes in each section from people like Bill Nye and Richard Dawkins. – Alex Groth (Beautiful Savior, Cincinnati, OH)
