Thoughts on Congregational Resources

All right, I know this doesn’t fall under the category of “scholarly book the pastor sets aside time to read” but I’ve found NPH’s ready-made programs beneficial for a while now. They jam-pack these with so much material that you get a sizeable number of options for what you take and what you leave—whatever suits your own congregation best. And I must say, I’ve been impressed with their Bible story selections, too. I think it’s good for kids to be exposed to some of those lesser-known accounts. And at least in my experience, it’s even given the grown-ups the opportunity to relearn some of these stories they don’t hear that often and get a much-needed refresher! All in all, good variety, good material. – Tyler Swiderski (St. Peter, Brodhead, WI) on VBS programs

Three more books, but these are the essentials—the Bible, the hymnal, and the catechism. NPH has gone above and beyond in recent years to make these precious treasures available to us. They play such a big role in the devotional life of myself and my family and in my public ministry. I cannot emphasize enough how much I have come to love these resources as I preach and teach and counsel, and as I carry out my other God-given callings of husband, parent, and child of God. – Jeremiah Gumm (King of Kings, Maitland, FL) on Holy Bible: Evangelical Heritage Version, Christian Worship: Hymnal, and Luther’s Catechism
