Episode 19: featuring guest Pastor Joel Petermann

In this episode of our podcast, we’re joined by Pastor Joel Petermann to talk about the gift and practice of prayer and his book Prayer: An Audience With the King.

What does it mean to approach prayer not as a duty, but as a conversation with our gracious King? How do we pray when it feels difficult, when answers seem delayed, or when we don’t know what to say at all? Pastor Petermann offers practical, Christ-centered encouragement for Christians at every stage of their prayer life—from using the Lord’s Prayer as a model to praying God’s promises from Scripture.

Whether you’re looking to build a consistent habit of prayer or simply want to grow in confidence as you bring your requests to the Lord, this conversation will point you back to the one who invites you to come to him.

Hello, my comment on the show is in response to Pastor Peterman’s comment on when we pray, to pray with thoughtfulness and not rush through a prayer; his example was rushing through the Lord’s Prayer. I’ve heard that in many different congregations and thought that that is a dangerous practice. Thanks!

Thank you for listening and for taking the time to comment.

You’re exactly right. It can be easy to move through written prayers (or prayers we know by heart) without reflecting on what we’re saying. What a helpful reminder to slow down, consider the words we’re praying, and remember our gracious God who invites us to bring these prayers to him.
